This is a picture of a series of doll installations at The Great Salt Marsh on Madison and 77th in NY in the mid 80's. They were also in doll shows at Victoria Falls on Spring St. in Soho, where one show was called "semi-transcendent and not to be missed" by the New York Times... The Museum of Modern Art stopped in for a walking tour on the "workings of the imagination."
Wendy's dolls were featured for one year in her "legendary" store on Saint Marks Place for one summer in 1979, where they lounged on movie chairs in front of the decorated walkdown shop. It was called "Wendy's bargain basement" - "and corn and heart art," after the automat restaurant in New York Horn and Hardart. Always changing, it was frequented by rock and punk music types and was next door to 13 The Saint Marks Bookstore. It is said Bruce Springsteen and other cool people would stop in.
