Oprah Gallery

It was July 2, 1986

Oprah invited me on her show a week before she was to go national. She had a local Chicago show. She introduced me as her favorite jewelry designer and said she owns 37 pairs of my earrings. I think we had met years earlier in Baltimore, possibly on the first TV show I was ever on. I was doing a tour for the Statue of Liberty celebration, for Nordtrom and Saks ( and had done a series of crowns and torches that got a lot of press play, a cool picture of Jerry Hall in a long red Norma Kamali dress standing on a ladder wearing my crown and torch, Andre Leon Talley was the art director in Vanity Fair On the cover was the presidents son). This was July the same year. Oprah was hysterically funny and just like she seems on TV.What fun we had that day. In the second half I gave a demonstration. Twith my glue gun and showed Oprah how to make a wristy. Oprah said "well this is just like vacation bible school."She did hilarious takes when I went off talking on some totally irrelevant dialogues. She had a fashion show and we showed a doll too. (and in the commercial was a grocery store called "Jewel " go figure! )

At the end, Oprah said "anybody thinks they could do this but this is an original Wendy Gell."
